That is a hard to answer question , as any dac you like with the headphones will do. The amp is very good And even though the dac section gets bashed it ok to me. Read and try to listen before you buy. And the kind of headphone will matter too. And the he6 will not do well with the amp. After listening to the amp with various dacs I own and my feeling is the amp is quite transparent . Read ,listen and maybe buy used too to save money as getting lucky first is hard. It's not just how good the dac is but more of what sound pleases you.. I hope this helps.

getting the errorcode 0xef000011 when I try to patch the fw.....upgrade failed....

also don't seem to get any sound from the usb driver anymore on both windows 8.1 and 7.

I think the failed fw update messed up my dac inside the hdv800

contacted sennheiser...Hopefully they know how to fix it or I'll have to return it to Germany.

...I got exactly the same error while processing the firmware upgrade from Windows 8! I also contacted Sennheiser. Since I am German I wrote in German language to their German page. Let's see whether there is anything coming back...

I had to send in my amp to the factory to reset it....not much else you can do about it sadly. So atm I am stuck without an amp.

The seller who I bought my unit from happens to be good friends with a Hi-Fi store owner, apparently the stands are not for sale and are used for distributors to display the units only but he managed to get hold of one. I am not 100% sure but I never seen it for sale either so I guess its true, he no longer needed it so just gave to me with the amp. Ideal since it now sits nicely on top of my PC case.
