Hi guys could I please ask your opinion. I have been trying to decide whether to buy the HD800S or the Edition X to use with my Sony ZX2 and Mojo but I am veering towards the HD800S. Do you think that they would be a good match with my current rig? Which ever headphone I get would be used solely at home.

Thanks

in all cases MOJO will be up to the task. It is a very powerful and musical device.  I even prefer it's sound signature to the one of my HUGO. Read my review here...

Its here. At last.
Arrived today in good company of HDVD800 and HD600, just switched to the balanced cable and started listening. I'll give them some time to get used to the quite different sound signature (from the Master-1 I use most these days that is).

Congrat.  I am sure that you will enjoy your new toy !

two questions:

- why did you buy a  HD800s AND a HD600  ?
confused.gif
Do you anticipate them to have very different sound for different music style ??

- re the HDVD800, do you feel it is the best dac/amp you can get for the HD800s/HD600 for that amount of money ?  have you considered other alternative before purchase ?

Anyway... we are looking forward your first impressions.  Expecially if you can compare to the original HD800 ?

I can't deny that I have some kind of... collection tendency. And At last I could not resist the HD600 as a classic (which it undeniably is).

I've first heard the HD800S on the HDVD800 and quite liked it (therefore my initial interest in getting it). The HD800 was never my cup of tea, even with different amps (but I don't remember having heard it on the HDVD800). I often buy combinations such as HD800S+HDVD800, T1+A2, Master-1+U-05, TH900+HP-A8, to see what the manufacturer intended it to sound like. Normally I don't use these amps for other headphones. Yes, I do consider the HDVD800 a very good amp for both these headphones, but will likely never try it with other headphones. As generic amps I have the DAC2 and the V281 (which I will both definitely try with the HD800S).

What I do like about the HDVD800 is its array of inputs and its double balanced plus unbalanced outputs.

What didnt you like about the hd800? The HDVD800 definitely smooths out the hd800's top end compared to other amps. Looking forward to your review.

The original was always always a bit clinical to me, forcing me to hear details instead of a consistent whole. That was remedied with the HD800S to me, but I don't remember having heard the HD800 on the HDVD800 before. I liked the HD800 best with Violectric amps so far, but just not enough to get one. I'll give the HD800S a try with my other amps for sure... so lets see if just the color lured me into buying them

Please let us know if it's still extremely sSsSsibilant like an original HD800?

Unfortunately I don't have an original HD800 on hand for direct comparison, but that is due to the fact that they were always a bit off to me, including a tendency for stressful treble. With the HD800S I don't have that feeling, even at quite high volume.

Bass is quite nice actually, dynamics are very good. Still very detailed, just not so much in your face.

Go with hd800S I had hd800 with woo audio wa7 and eh tubes. It was unbelievable listening experience not amazing with rap or trance music but rest sounded world class. Hd800 is headphone worth owning.

I can't answer that reliably since I don't have the original HD800 on hand and only heard them in direct comparison for 20min at a show. I'd say it's about a similar size but nearer.
