If you want to bring taxes into it then it works out even better/worse.
$AU1375 includes a GST of 10%
If the product goes overseas then that 10% can be refunded at the airport, bringing it down to $AU1250.
$AU1250 = $USD895 at the moment.
If I was headed overseas - I could buy a pair, take them with me on the trip and come back home with them.
They'd cost me <$900 USD
Add in an HDVD800 for $AU2,100 ($1500 USD) - less tax on the in/out flight ($1375 USD) and I end up with HD800 and HDVD800 for around $2275 USD
$US2275 + postage vs $US3800 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sennheiser-hd800-professional-studio-over-ear-headphones-and-hdvd800-digital-headphone-amplifier/1308012153.p?id=mp1308012153&skuId=1308012153
Basically the price of an HDVD800 over there - headphones are free?
edit: when the OZ dollar was at parity (before it tanked) Senn was not letting anyone sell the product at below RRP - that seems to have changed. First decent thing I've seen in a long time where the "good beaches tax" seems to have not been imposed - am so tempted to invest.
Whilst living in Singapore I bought a new car over the internet to be picked up in Australia on my arrival 2 months later. It was a good deal and I didn't want to miss it!
