3. Now this might be beneath Sennheiser, but you can't reject the possibility that they'd give all the better manufactured drivers, drivers matching their specs most closely, to HD600's. That's supposed to be what Grado does with the SR60...325 line and what I'd do too if I were in charge of the company. But since I bought the 580... I'd just have to hope that they are more benevolent than I would be "

So based on your statements, I guess the HD 580 and the HD 600 do NOT sound the same then

Oh crap. Everyone, just go for the HD 600 then, to be on the safe side that you really are getting the best

Also, the graphs for Grado headphones at HeadRoom's website seem to be REALLY misleading. I mean, if I'm reading it correctly, judging by the graph, a high-end headphone like the Grado RS-1 looks really bright sounding, with a lot of focus on the higher freq.

Also, they say that the HD 590 are " Presenting a bright musical exhibition, the 590s can be detailed to the point of fatique."

Fatique!? From the HD 590s!? Those guys can go "¤%&"¤%&#%& themselves (sorry, but that's just so misleading!)

About Headroom,I bought the HD 595 because they said it's a great alternative to the HD 600...Well,some months later I tried the latter in my xfi for two days,UNAMPED,and guess what? The HD 600 not only had volume, detail and dynamics in spades, they also sounded a heck of a lot better than my supposedly "low end gear-friendly" 50 ohms cans.Everyone's ears are different,of course, but I can guarantee that mine are well trained.
Also, many people talk about how dark and veiled the HD 600 are,and to me they're exactly the opposite. The best cans I've tried so far(having listened to K701,dt 880,HD 650)

so,

i am new here. i am NOT an audiophile. but i bought the HD600 because i caught the amazon deal. i have been looking for nice cans for awhile, and after some quick research, it looked like i was getting a pretty good deal.

now, when i listen to music, i will be plugging my hd600 straight into my laptop. if i were to use an amp, does anybody have recommendations? the cheaper the better...i'm not sure i can even tell the difference yet!

Reviving an old thread is not the best place to get answers, but I would say that it is not worth investing in an HD600 unless you plan on getting an amp for it. I think that the Fiio E9 would be your best bet for a powerful yet cheap amp. Logically, your next investment should be a good and cheap dac like the Fiio E10 which I highly recommend over the E7.

If your budget is really an issue, you can look for quality 80s or early 90s vintage amps which are usually astonishingly powerful and can be gotten for very cheap in places like yard sales. There is always the risk of deteriorating components however so it is riskier. I would look for brand names such as Kenwood, Pioneer, Marantz, etc.
