The latest news I've heard comes from the comments section of one of Sennheiser's videos, but the comments are 3 months old Maybe they've decided not to release it?

Yea, I would love a shorter cable with 3.5mm primary jack. I got mine a week ago and was disappointed with the long cable along with 1/4 jack because I think it is pretty unnecessary to have a 1/4 primary jack considering it is only a 50 ohms headphone. It runs perfectly without an amp and it is just extra size and weight.

Would it be possible to just cut the cord and reterminate it? I mean if the cable don't have enamel covering, it shouldn't be hard.

Certainly.
 
I think putting some flux on the enamel and heating it with a soldering iron will remove the enamel if there is any.
