Hi all. So I've decided that I want to pick up a set of HD598s, but reading around they appear to have been only $180 in November, but now they are listed everywhere at $250. Does anyone know where I could pick these up for as close to $200 as possible.

Also I'm planning on running these on a Fiio E17 when I'm able to pick one up, and I was wondering if anybody sells any shorter cables for the headphones, maybe around a 3 to 6 ft range which terminates in a 3.5mm jack instead of the 1.4inch jack.

Prices drop on everything for the Christmas season, but from January till May, headphone sales are going to be low even if they drop prices.
So retailers ( & Sennheiser) figures it's better to keep prices high and make a higher profit over the few headphones they do sell.
At least that how it appears Sennheiser is doing business.
Check Sennheiser's website for cable's, but i do not think they sell shorter cables.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I think I'll hold out until I can get my hands on the Fiio E17 at least. I have a set of Sennheiser HD 580s that I picked up 12 years ago, but I've not been using them since they really need something strong to drive them and I've not invested in any sound hardware in the last 5 years :frowning2:

Yeah, I checked their website out, no alternative cables. I did find a crowd in the UK however who will custom cut a replacement cable and terminate it with a 3.5mm jack, but I'm not interested in paying international shipping. I wonder if there is a company in the states that does the same thing.

Well, I am a big believer in buying refurbished, & at times "B" stock, as they generally have minimal, if any blemishes. The price difference is on a case-by-case basis.

I bring this up, because there is a website that sells refurbished-authorized for Denon and Sennheiser, and "B" stock headphones.

The 598's can be had for $170 + shipping, and the 600's can be had for $208!

I don't know if I am allowed to leave a link on here, but I will pm it to you.

Let us know what you end up buying, and how you like them!

Well a little update on this. I email Sennheiser last night asking if the were planning on a shorter cable with a 3.5mm terminator and this is the reply I got:

Thanks for your question. There are plans to have this cable available shortly. We are currently in testing phases. It will be approx 5 ft long with a 3.5mm termination.

So that's great news for me and those who use portable headphone amps with the HD598s.

w00t w00t!  The new 5' cable is awesome news!  I've always wanted a shorter cable for my 598s.  I was going to diy one, but I couldn't find any place that sold a 2.5mm jack that would fit into the headphone >.<

They will not be releasing a new cable for the HD598. Here is the email I sent, and the email I received from Senneisher:

Im inquiring to see if there is a different cable available for the HD598. I do not like the standard 1/4 plug this cable uses, requiring me to use the 3.5mm adapter 99% of the time.  It causes weight stress on many of my components. Do you have a cable that will work with the HD598 and terminates to a 3.5mm plug?

Thank you for contacting Sennheiser. At this time there is not an alternate cable for the HD 598. Extensive market knowledge and research has shown that the majority of users utilize the 1/4 inch connection.

Have a great day.

Sucks pretty bad. Anyone know of a place that sells the cable we want?

Sounds like it's tech support are just going over what they currently have while my reply came from a Sr Product Specialist... not sure if it makes a difference.
