Sennheiser HD595's: How portable are they?

i vote for the v6's due to there ability to fold, and that they dont sound half bad, although they are no match for the 595's. Also, if you are really going to get the 595's watch out! The cord is going to be way too long for portable use. I am forced to use a twisty-tie to keep the cord manageable on my dt770's

4 on your scale. They do very well portable though, I used mine on the bus for 2 months un amped and they did fine.

The 280 do have a coiled cable like the V6. I'm thinking about grabbing one of the 2 as well for a portable set(trying to replace my beloved Porta Pro).

I really can't recommend the 595 as portable phones... size isn't a factor to me since I don't mind carrying big phones, but the fact that it's open just kills the portability factor.

I'd vote no on the 595 portability:

1/4" plug is an issue (needs an adaptor or replacement)

Long cord can be an issue

plush pads - though comfortable, not great if you're walking around in the heat and start to perspire.

HD-25 is ideal if you can get them (size, cord, sound and pleather pads)

One vote for 280s as portable for these reasons: foldable, closed, isolation, coiled cable, 1/8" jack, good price

595 is not a practical portable. Granted, many people may have used it as portable, but then what do you mean by "portable"? There is zero isolation as well and the guy next to you will clearly hear what you are listening to. Why not get a PX100 or something. I'd still be embarassed to go out with a 280 on my head.
