I was at my local pawn shop and found some HD580s in fair condition for $99. I also got to hear them and liked what I heard. So my question is this: Is this a good deal? I can't really seem to find them online...

It's exactly the same as the HD-600, but with different cosmetics. They have the same enclosure, the same drivers, the same headband, and I think it's even the same cable. Most people seem to get the HD600 grills for them, and the earpads might need replacing if they're old. Even with that, $99 is a steal.

It's a great deal, now that they are obsolete and much sought-after.

I'm no expert like others on these forums, but the HD580 is one awesome can, I'm glad I bought them new right before they became hard to find.  They are glorious with classical and opera.

It's a great deal and as others have mentioned you can make them new again with a new headband cushion and ear cushions from Sennheiser or other online sources.

I bought a pair off of a co-worker for $100 and dumped $75 into them and am very pleased.  I replaced the headband cushion and ear cushions, bought HD600 grilles and the HD650 cable.

I would never part with my 580's - slap on a pair of 600 grills and a 650 cable and you pretty well have a
match for the 600's - grab em while you have a chance.

I never really believed in the manufacturer's propaganda at introduction of the HD600. That I mainly considered as price hike rather than major product improvement.

It was an impulse purchase many years ago at a close-out sale, almost as cheap as a steal. At the time I had not even use for it, with K1000 as my main headphone at home.

But now it gets serious use with my portable amp. For semi-portable use, I in fact prefer the HD580's dull grey plastic and its 3.5mm jack over its younger siblings.

And when I say fair condition I mean practically new!

I have had mine for over 6 years now and absolutely love them.    Being that they are in a pawn shop, you should offer them $70-$80 and they will probably accept it.    Enjoy your new cans!

Alright, got them and I'm really glad I did. I didn't realize that they were 300ohms

but thankfully my amp can handle them.
