i know that both of them are very different kind of headphones.
but i am getting them for the same price here in switzerland.. i wanted to know which would be better in terms of SQ and comfort ?
i'll be using it with an ipod/laptop mostly.

How does the hd485 compare with the hd515, beyer DTX 900 and Philips SHP8900 ?

The 485's are slightly less comfortable than the HD515s, but not much at all. The 485's are still very comfortable. I have also done quite a lot of research on both and the 485's actually have better sound quality than the 515's in terms of Bass and overall SQ. Not to mention the much lower impedance on the 485's.

Ive never heard of the 8900's, but I have heard people compare the 8500's (a new version of the 895's) to the sennheiser hd 555's. If thats true, maybe the 8500's are indeed better than the HD 485's. Still, for $60 you cant go wrong with the HD 485s. Keep in mind the 485s have A LOT of bass. The other frequencies are there and strong, but the bass is VERY strong. Hard to explain. If you like bass its fine, but if you do not, look elsewhere.

Also keep in mind the 8500s are closed and the 485's are open.
