But i'm not sure it's what we're after, "designed for high frequency testing" whatever that means. Is this a 500 dollar headphone made for treble test tones

It's for hearing tests when you go to an audiologist. Unless you have some other complaint, they almost always will test for high frequency loss since that's where most people have hearing loss who have any loss.
