Basically, I want the headphone with the deepest bass and that extends low. I can take a little bit of bloat and boominess, but not a whole lot. Of course I will burn them in. So which one?

the hd280's are a no go. They have very neutral bass. Also, the freq curve of the 240 is very similar to a dt770. You might also look for a early or mid-production AKG sextet.

The Equation Audio RP-21 has a great low-range presence. I'd definitely check it out, it's generally seen to be much better than the HD280.

HD280 has great bass extension, but no punchiness or authority. I'd recommend going for something else.

I have a question for K240 Studio owners. I have read quite a few reviews of the AKG's failing on one side. Could you please enlighten me on this. Also, I can't find anything about how long they are warranted either.

I haven't heard the 240, so won't comment on that phone, but IMHO the dt-250 corrects the bass lean and harsh upper mid issues with the senn HD-280. More comfy, too.

The only thing I can say about my 240s is they sound good to me. They're better than the 485s I used to have. And coming from an AV710 and a cmoy with a BB 2132 it doesn't sound bad at all. I don't think it's bass heavy either. It's slightly more detailed than the 485 and the high end has more sparkle to it.

Two years.

Deep bass is partly a function of how well they fit and seal around your ears.

Never heard of that problem. I would take a guess at loose solder connection on the problematic end (which should then be easily repaired). My 20-30 year-old Sextett is still going strong (going to recable it with something nicer-looking soon though).

Yeah, I saw that they are "Semi-Open". What exactly does this mean? I don't mind them being open at all, because I will be using them at home, but I'm just curious what exactly is the difference between Semi-Open and Closed.
