I've had my HD205 for about a year and I'm thinking about retiring them to the kids and getting something else. I can get the refurb HD428 for ridiculously cheap right now as I can't really spend much and otherwise have to stay entry-level.  Other than the HD428 probably being more comfortable, is this a noticeable upgrade or should I just keep the HD205s?

Well, In my oppinion their sound is almost the same. Why not getting a headamp instead?

What do you think of the Sennheiser's vs the JVC RX700. Would this seem more like a parallel move still or a downgrade?

the hd 205's offer a lot of flexibility-- you can add cloth pads to them to open them up or use the stock closed cups to block out more noise.
