Hello good people!

You have a pair of Sennheiser HD 800, an iMac, a MacBook Air and $800. Is there an amp on the market for $1000 max (preferably $700) that could plug into my computers and get a lot out of the HD 800?

I have spent hours looking for a solution, but I just do not trust myself to make the right decision.

I think you could do much better with a standalone DAC and an OTL amp like the Bottlehead Crack + Speedball.

I'm in the same situation.  I don't think there is anything special about Apple machines when it comes it DAC/amps.  I'm still waiting delivery for a Woo Audio 7 which costs $999.  However, if it wasn't for this new DAC/amp, I would go for a decent DAC and the Bottlehead amp for my HD800.
 
I ended up going with the WA7 because I also own a FitEar 334 and this amp is supposed to be terrific with sensitive IEMs as well as high-powered headphones.
