Sennheiser HD 700 Siblence Fix, making them sound like the HD 800 - EqualizerAPO Config Preset - Siblence Fix
Nov 30, 2016 at 9:02 PM Post #16 of 36
Hey guys, i recently moved on from the HD598 to the HD700, the difference is there but not too gigantic for me ( but hey, i got the HD700 for 310 euros, best bang for the buck ever ).
I tried the HD800 configuration here, and it made everything better, without a doubt.
But i was wondering if you could make them sound like the HD800S ?

I was already thinking about selling my Sennheiser HD 700 but then i found this thread and your latest flat  Eq settings made them realy sound awesome! :)

I changed the presets from the 0-100 Hz range because i like to hear a nice heavy base. I found this preset the best for a strong base&sub without sounding ugly and you also benefit from the much wider soundstage that the rest of the flat Eq settings provide.

I am having realy much fun with this preset.

Have Fun :)

Just picked up the HD 700s and I totally agree with what's been said about the siblence.  This EQ with the bass boost and flattening is amazing and totally changed my thoughts of returning the headphones.  Thanks for making this!

Man it has been a while since I've been on Head-Fi. I unfortunately no longer have my HD 700s or HD 800s or HD 598s since I had to sell stuff to move on my own. Life hit me after about 1 year of this post. Not sure if I'm going to return to the headphones hobby, since it's expensive and I don't really have the money for it at the moment, but I am fortunate enough to at least own a pair of HD 600s.

I have to say, the HD 600s are not that impressive as people make them to be. The 600s are way too flat and has no character; I guess that's a good think when it comes to creating music. Now that I think of it, they kinda sound like the HD 800s without that warm/crisp bass and butter smooth transition from mids to highs; the HD 600s sound grainy in comparison.

I don't really know where to go from here since I no longer have my equipment. I don't think I'm much use to the community in this post anymore, but I am happy that I made some people happy and helped.

I am actually thinking about selling my HD 600s to buy the HD 700s once more to have fun.

Sorry for reviving an old thread but ive just purchased HD700 and was already in love with them. Now with this? Holy hell! This is amazing. This should be "REQUIRED" software and config.
I messed around putting 5db from 10hz to 100hz to increase bass. 2db as someone recommended is probably fine but in some metal songs i prefered 5db increase in that range. Toggled it on and off while in games as well, its night and day.
I turned off the "Preamplication" which i guess is correct right? It was set to -6db which only lowers the volume. Dont want that.

Congrats! I've grown to love my HD 700s. In fact I haven't been able to take them off. I have a pair of HD 600s as well, but the comfort and excitement of the HD 700s make it hard to ever reach for the 600s anymore. The Hd 700s are so comfy; you just forget they are there. One problem I have with them is the "s" sounds in voice and vocals, but EQ can fix that.

As for the pre-amplification, that is Peace (Im assuming youre using peace?) adjusting the volume because it senses clipping. Uncheck "lower volume to avoid clipping" to avoid that.

Hey, first post here. Been to this thread a few time over the years. I really like'd DannyRox23's Sennheiser HD 700 Flat Frequency Response Preset

However, like some other users the bass wasn't there. Also the other bass presets are a bit muddy/thumpy and overpower everything else. I love to listen to psy and classical, so I want pronounced mids and fkn TIGHT bass. I have a Sound Blaster ZXR with stock op amps driving these. Anyways here is a preset from AutoEQ

// Important that Preamp is -6.8, otherwise positive gains will interfere

Preamp: -6.8 dB

So I took this base EQ and further refined it by more closely matching the measured response from AutoEQ.

I used mostly GraphicEQ to match it, though I'm not good at the parametric so it was easier to tune a lot of the minute stuff. I did add couple extra parametric filters in the 2k and 8k tho. Now this EQ sounds really good to me but I'd love some feedback on it :)

Hi, is there any way to do this with a virtual sound card as well? I have hd700 to fiio e10k but am also using razer thx as virtual sound or waves nx as my "sound card" can the flow be sound > eq > waves nx ?

Recent purchase of the Sennheiser HD 700, I didn't like the siblence. They sparkle too much in the highs and the lows. The "V" shape of the graph also causes them to sound a bit muddy. Comparing them to my HD 800, I realized that the HD 800 has sharper highs, BUT with no siblence, making them sound articulate.

I was shocked how the Sennheiser HD 700 could sound just like the HD 800 headphones. Of course, you cannot mimic the soundstage of the HD 800, but the frequencies are pretty damn similar, with the preset fix.

  • Download and install EqualizerAPO.
  • After installing, you'll need to restart your computer, as the installer instructs.
  • Go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\EqualizerAPO\config"
  • Open the "config.txt"
  • To make sure this will work, change the dB value(6) to "0." The volume level should change after "ctrl+s"(saving.)
  • If the volume level changed, copy and paste the preset, below, into "config.txt" (REPLACE/ctrl+a everything)

Sennheiser HD 700 Balanced Preset (Flattening the RAW Frequency Data)

Sennheiser HD 700 to HD 800 Preset (Matching the Raw Frequency Data)

If you guys wanna modify my preset to maybe fix some frequency issues; by all means do so!
Old guy here, just dipping my toe into eq‘ing, which had always been ‘taboo’ in my primarily analog audiophile world. I ran across this old and dead thread, downloaded eqMac, the simplest equalizer I could find for my MacOS based headphone system, and used these maps as a guide to tweak the sound of my 700s to my own personal perfection. Stunning - they now (finally) sound the way I always thought they should. Thank you!

My EQ only has 24 bands. Can I just skip 400hz - 900hz since they don't change the dB?

Edit: Nevermind deleted the extra bands and am running a modified version of the bass EQ. Sounds awesome.
