Hi,

A friend is about to get a pair of Sennheiser HD 598, and he's thinking of using it on his computer and his Sansa Clip+.

He's wondering if it's possible to get a decent sound from the Clip+ to the HD 598. Does it require an amp?

The 598s are significantly easier to drive than the Senn 600 series. Indeed, the 598s sound good even without an amp. A Clip+ should be quite acceptable as a pairing with the 598s. Hope your friend will enjoy them. ^^

Heya,

No amp required. The Sansa will be fine.

Very best,

The HD598 are very efficient headphones, your friend will be safe using the clip+

I'm often the one to suggest portable amps with most every portable headphone, but the HD-598 sounds perfectly OK from a Sansa Clip+. I really like that combination.
Of course the HD-598 deserves a nice amp, but I'd never buy anything more than say an E9 for it.
That mp3 player can drive some of the harder to drive headphones quite well.

BTW you can't even crank the Clip+ to 100% with the 598 unless you want hearing damage.
