Personally I think they are bass light and a little grainy for studio use, and I haven't seen someone suggest them for that, but if you take those two things into account, maybe they could be used. Lunatique has (or used to have) an HD555, that could be a very valuable opinion about this.
If you didnt make a purchase it would be way much better to go with akg k240. If you already have hd 595 you can do monitoring with them but you have to learn every fault in freq range and colouration because your music have to sound good on every audio system, home , car system, hi end system etc. and that could be very long and painful experience. In other words dont go with hd 595 it will save you a lot of time.
