Out of the models HD 580, 555, 595, which is the highest sound quality? Which one is best for classical music and which one is more comfortable? 580 seems pretty good but is ugly compared to 595 or 555

Well the 555 and 595 are a different headphone line than the 580. The 580 and the 595 are different and preference may determine which you like better. More relaxed or more energetic. I think most people around here would classify the 580 as being better, and it's certainly better for classical music. Sennheisers do classical very well.

Also, the 580 is a better built can then the 595. Not to knock the 595, but the 580 is just more comfortable (once broken in) and of higher quality plastics.

Note: I've listened to the HD600, which is very close to the 580. I've held the 580 and tried it on, though.

I suggest you do a search on any of the models mentioned. There has been much disscusion here on the Sennheiser cans. Do the research and decide which best fits your needs. I'm relativly new here but did my research and selected the HD580's. I'm sure however that I will add other headphones to my stable as my budget warrents. Good luck with your search.

Does the 580 sound good when unamped?

I thought the HD580 was ugly, until I saw it in real life and used it. Now I think it looks much nicer than the HD555, which I have also seen in real life.

You've got to trust me on this. The HD580 is a better looking headphone in person, and much more durable / expensive feeling. The 595 is better unamped though, the 580 really kind of needs an amp. The 595 is only pricier because it is a newer model. the 580 is an absolute STEAL for the street price these days.

If you hold them next to each other in a store, you'll feel the difference. I was actually a little dissapointed in the 595 build when I first held it... it was much cheaper feeling than it looked in the pictures.

You can put the HD600 grills on the 580s, under $10 each...That makes them look like HD600s that someone hasn't been sick on.

The HD580 does sound better for classical though for other types of music, I like HD595 a bit better.

Sorry, but I think the stock HD580 grill is ugly especially when compared to HD595's looks. The earpieces on the HD595 does feel flimsy though.

***BLIND POSTER ALERT!!***

'You can put the HD600 grills on the 580s,'

Which makes its looks completely academic, unless you don't like the general appearance of the 600/650, which is hardly anyone elses fault.

It's got a little bit of a clamp at first, but this goes away in almost no time at all. The HD580 design is more comfortable then the 555, yes.

It comes down to between the 580 and the 595. I really like my 595s and I may be in the minority, but I think they ever so slightly edge out for comfort.
However, I'd say overall sound quality goes to the 580. The 595s are more fun, but the 580s do classical much, much better.
Having said that, make sure you have a nice amp. They need it to sound anywhere near their potential.
