I have them and they sound very good in regards to rock.

I listen to Cream, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, etc. and they sound wonderful. They're really nice cans that go well with a lot of different genres. I also listen to classical, pop, jazz etc and they sound good for all of em.

They are good all-rounders.

They have a warm sound that you might be put off by in certain genres, but I think they'll perform well across all genres. Maybe not so much for metal and contemporary rock. Still, there's no wrong answer with them, IMO. If you can't stand how they sound for whatever rock you listen to, return them and try Sony MDR-V6s or Onkyo ES-FC300s.

V6's sound really artificial and harsh at times.

Now these headphones should sound better than Bose ae2s right

Ask a lot of people on these forums and they'd probably say two tin cans with a string attached sound better than Bose headphones. That said, either options I or Fuzziekiwi listed are good. Q701s and Fidelio X1s are pricey compared to the others, though (can definitely recommend the Fidelio X1s, they're my headphone of choice and I listen to a ton of grunge).

I'd say they're great for the money.  I tried my dad's pair out of an iPod and they were pretty good for rock.  Like somebody above said Grado SR80i are another good option.
