I recently borrowed and listened to a pair of these headphones with and without the "tape" taken out.
Supposedly there's a marked difference. It makes them sound "clearer" in the mids and highs.
I don't honestly hear much of a difference. There seems a be a TAD increase in clarity. Then again I can't tell if it's just me expecting it to be different. The bass seems to be.... slightly varied. Not sure.
Is the tape a good thing? There's a minimal difference to my ears personally. I'm not sure if I actually prefer the taped version, or the tapeless.
