My bro would like a new pair of headphones that are under £35, can take the occasional knock, are quite light and sound relatively detailed/exciting from a rio karma. He doesn't mind what style or type they are but no big black plastic headphones, he doesn't want the p*** taken out of him.
I've been mainly considering the sennheiser hd-497 and koss headphones, thanks for your comments/suggestions.

The 497s are good headphones, but they are very bright and they have the tendancy to hurt my ears quite easily. Just keep that in mind. As far as sound quality goes, it's one of the best-sounding for the price.

I just got a pair of 497s, and while it's obviously still too soon to call, I do have a favorable first impression. Having said that, they are indeed bright and I have had to use an equalizer to compensate. I still believe they're a good set of phones for the money though...
