Hi.
Does someone know the sennheiser hd 1000 charleston? It’s sold at ebay (germany http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...item=803592094) and they say it's sennheiser’s top of the line dynamic headphone (thought it was the hd 600). I can’t find any information on the web and I’m wondering whether it’s good or not. Can you guys help me out?

Thanks.

horscht: If you use the search function with the terms "sennheiser hd 1000", you'll also find chych's thread "Senn HD-1000???" with all the infos we could dig up...

horsch i remember a review of the hd-1000 at What hi-fi around 1995.the article said that the sound was mediocre and not even close to hd-580(top of the line Senn at the time)It was just a novelty phone.
you also have e-mail !

mecano,

The author of that review was wrong or biased. Mediocre??? Definitely not.

Let's be logical: why would Sennheiser celebrate their jubilee by releasing a *mediocre* limited series, gold-plated etc. headphone?

If it was not something really special (as I think it was), they would just drop a gold plating on the HD-580 and the trick was ready. But I doubt their intention to cheat, and I trust their intention to release a very limited series of a really special thing.

Well i never heard them .i just said what the reviewer wrote
he concluded that Sennheiser's intention was to make a phone that looks special rather than sounds special. Like an ornament

He he, if that reviewer had some kind of travel noise cancelling earplugs while listening, he fortunately did not wear his travel eye shades

I really wonder for how long lasted that guy in his "reviewer" job

IMHO, these cans not only look gorgeous, but they sound accordingly.

Shivohum, I have them. I like them *very much*, but I decided to choose among my Senns HD-540, HD-600s and HD-1000s... the HD-600s will stay and the other two will have to leave... if you will take a look in the "gear for sell-trade" part you will notice my "sell" announcement.

The fact that I would get more $$$ on the HD-1000 than on the HD-600 helped me also make my choice, since I need money for Christmas

Now I am NOT saying that the HD-1000s are better than the HD-600. They are... different. Sometimes I enjoy them more, sometimes I prefer the HD-600s. Yes, and sometimes the HD-540s. Well, these are just MY ears...

As for their looks, they are simply superb (to My eyes, of course

I remember another thread that had a picture of these 'phones.
And I do think they're very nice looking as well.

But I didn't read anything on the sound they produce.

Sound should be fairly similar to the HD-435 - same drivers used...
