Ok.... so basically by just reading the title you guys already know i am a total noob when it came to cables and etc.....

So here's the deal....

I received a pair of Sennheiser Amperiors this week. I bought the on amazon warehouse and they were stated as "like new". Indeed they were.... beautifull and without a single scratch and even the ios cable (the one with the remote control) was still unopened so i was very happy with that.... until.... i figured out there was supposed to be a regular cable wich would allow me to conect the amperiors to some of my android devices (the ios cable is not compatible with my xperia arc s as an example.....

The cable missing is this one here....

I contacted amazon and they admited the mistake and gave me a 15 euro refund to purchase the cable.... This cable right here cost 14,77 euros. I like to keep things stock in case i sell them later but in this case i dont know if i should get this extension since there are some coments here on head fi that this cable is really flimsy and will break easily....

What do you guys think.... ? Should i pay almost 15 euros for this original sennheiser amperior cable? Is it a good quality cable?

Here is the link for the cable on sennheiser's spares website:

Or should i simply get one of this options that are cheaper and look more durable on ebay:

Any of these cables would be an upgrade to the sennheiser amperior cable i am missing? A copper cable is better in terms of audio response?

Sorry for all the bother guys.... but i am really clueless regarding this matter.... XD

Cheers...

Hi Pedro,

The original is nothing special. Quality is fine, and I'm not sure if another cable would improve.

Actually, if there is any improvement that could come from a cable you would have to fully recable the Amperior. Just attaching an extension cable to the shorter upper Amperior cable is only going to be as good as this upper segment. The upper cable acts as a bottleneck.

So unless you want to spend quite bit of money, you aren't going to get an improvement in audio quality. And even then, it's debatable.

Changong the whole cable is definitly not an option.... But the cable that i am missing is very flimsy malfunkt? What would you do in my place, spend the entire amazon refund on the original sennheiser cable and keep everyrhing stock or get greedy and simply order a cheap cable from ebay (some of them look pretty durable....)...

By the way malfunkt, check my lastest come on the amperiors appreciation thread.... Tell me if you think i am crazy....

Cheers...

Get one of the eBay cables.  Rule of thumb (or so I think it ought to be): don't rely on cables thinner than a toothpick.  Seriously, they're never worth it.
The first impulse I got when I received an Amperior that I bought from another head-fier was to throw that little extension away immediately, lol.  I didn't to keep things stock as I was not yet decided on really keeping the headphone (and ultimately I did not keep the headphone).

As far as sound quality, the thicker cable attached with screws to the headphone will bottleneck the sound, but Malfunkt exaggerates.  A full recable would be best, nevertheless; but for now, one of those eBay cables will do.

Thanks max.... Any suggestions for a thicker, cheaper and more durable extension than the stock one?

Cheers....
