I'm currently looking for a headset solution/ good headphone solution for PC gaming. I really love sound quality, and I know Sennheiser is great for that.

From those that have more experience with headphones, what would be the better option, a headphone with clip-on mic, or a headset?

I have an Omega Claro Plus soundcard in my PC, would adding a headphone amp (Fiio E9) make a difference in sound quality?

Thanks!

These are the two I am looking at by the way,

Astro A40 ($200.00)

or

598's ($170 + $10 for extra mic)

The Sennheiser HD598, no contest. I've heard the Astro A40 and I really wasn't that impressed -- it's comfortable, but the sound quality on it is iffy, especially for something that expensive. That said, if you want a closed headphone, there are other options.

Well, first realize that the soundstaging for gaming will be better on open headphones, but there are some closed headphones with above average soundstages for closed headphones. The Fischer Audio FA-003/Brainwavz HM5 or KRK KNS 6400/8400 are the first two choices that come to mind for this job.

What are these other options? I am quite curious myself.

If you don't NEED close headphones just stick with open ones for gaming.

Thanks for the responses guys!

I am definitely straying more towards the 598's, however I just caught wind of the Sennheiser PC360 headset.

Which one do you all think would be the better option?

Sennheiser 598 + Zalman clip-on mic ($180) vs. Sennheiser PC360 ($215)
