I've never listened to the 120 Ohm Version, but find my HD 555s-50ohm a little bass lacking.

Me? My HD555's are of the 120-Ohm version; my HD595's are the 50-Ohm version.

My 555's have a moderate mid-bass hump, while my 595's have hardly any such hump. Go figure.

And? Can you tell any difference in low frequency behavior besides the bass hump?

My HD595-50 Ohm version goes down deeper in the low end than any version of the HD555 does.

I'm thinking of getting some 595s (120 ohm). I don't have an amp and would like to know if these will still be ok. How about for portables?

will75, I'll confidently suggest to go with the 50 ohm 595, as it will sound certainly no worse than the 120 ohm but be more easily driven.

The 50 ohm HD595 has an efficiency of 99.9 dB / mW -- thus, it needs a single mW (on a 50 ohm load) to reach a rather amazing (for a high end headphone) 100 dB sound pressure.

My Sony D-EJ109 portable CDP definitely drives it more than adequately.

You can get a HD595 50ohm brand new for that price!

Are the 595's considered "high-end"?

Sep 25, 2005 at 2:13 PM Post #24 of 39
Near-high-end, if you prefer, looking at model numbers. Higher end than the HD580; and lower end than the HD600, but by a vanishingly small margin.

Hey, Will, good to see someone else from St. Louie on here! I just got my 595s, and believe they are the 120 ohm version, but like a lot of people said, I'm not sure if there woudl be a difference between the two. As for using the 595s as portables, you could do it, but they would be tough to lug around everywhere. Also, you might get a few looks on the street. Might want to look at some of the good IEMs that can be had for <$100.

Hey DJ. I'm in Arnold, MO. How about you?

As far as the portablething. I was just using that as a benchmark for how easily the 120 ohms can be driven. I plan on using them in my pc.
Thanks!

well,to find the 595s for 145$ brand new is quite difficult...if not impossible

however in my opinion 145$ for a third hand can is way too much...even if they are 120ohm (and we have to see if they really sound better than 50ohm models)

I bought them second hand for $150 in the forums and sold them to Lou for $145 because I hardly put any hours on them. They included the original box and everything that came with them...aside from some dust on the pads and some beneficial burn-in (if you believe in that), they were good as new. I wasn't trying to rip anyone off...I've never seen them shipped via Priority Mail for that price before.

i'm not saying anyone is trying to rip anyone off.

but for me the price is too much...here i can have them new for ~185$, and i would never buy them second hand for 150$ nor third hand for 145$.
however if you pay them 250$, it would be obviously a good price

Dhw
HI: Does this mean you are sending me a 45.00 refund. LOL The 595 120 ohm headphones are in A1 condition and are well burn in and sound great. The member that said that 145.00 could be had for that price new please put a link to that price but I don't think that you can.

Amazing how people try so hard to say anything that is true or not but just need to post anything. LOL.

Any way I am very much enjoying my 595 120 ohm headphones and am very surprised at how much bass they have. Thank you very much Dhw. Great deal.
