Sennheiser 414: Information and amp reccomendation

Anyone know anything about these classic sennheiser cans?

Also looking for suggestions on the perfect amplifier to accompany them.

I have a friend who is getting back into headphones, so any information is appreciated!

I've had a pair for over twenty years (above, next to my HD-600 for size comparison). Sonically, I'd put them on par with the Grado SR-60. They do well with all the amps I own (see profile).
