I could not recommend that. Ipod classic ($80ish) + 2 weeks to send and get back + For the imod ($250) + shipping ($10)+ special lod cable 'alo audio imod lod" ($200 or used $35ish)+headstage arrow ($280 used $200). And to add salt the newer ipods coming out are beating the old ipod classic 5/5.5 generation.  And the galaxy s4 is better then the ipod classic with the imod. If you want a better upgrade then buy the Apex Glacier ($500 used $350ish) and when you upgrade your phone get the galaxy s4 because it has a high end wolfson micro chip (dac) a big step up from the wolfson chip you can find on the ipod classic 5/5.5 generation.  And if you wanna spend even more instead of the Fiio L9 lod cable ($12)get a Alo audio lod cable like the triple pipe($200 used $75ish) or the cricket ($175ish used $60ish). 
The apex is a overall better amp and also can be used as a dac for your pc that is 100% better then the headstage arrow and a far bigger upgrade then getting a ipod imodded. (it is the one in the middle) And here is a post I found on the form

Well, i know that there's a lot of better stuff, for much more money. I could buy better HP too that cost 2-3G$, but to start i guess i can manage to stay under 1G.
 
So the iMod+alo cable+arrow+hd650=1200$ (circa)
Its already a bit more than i was expecting to pay.
 
So in that price range, the setup i mentioned above is the best choice i can get?

400$(hp)+535$(Stefan audio art cable)+450$(iPod 5.5 gen 240gb)+470$(imod+Dock cable)+300$(amp head stage 4g)=~2500$....
And that was my first experience with high quality equipment

That is just way to much, you could've easily bought a JDS labs C5D (amp/dac) + your iphone with either the camera connection kit or the lightning to 30-pin adapter and used some cheap FiiO cables, or some ALO Green line cables.
You paid 535 for 1 cable? And 200ish for another ? In your first portable setup ?
