i have a pair of senneheiser 580 that came with a rather long cord.
is there a replacement cord avalible shorter that I would benifit in sound quality?

Not really.. but there's the 650 cord that people say sounds better..

You could get a 5ft. "audiophile" cord (like a silver/blue/black dragon, equinox, etc.) but for some reason I get the sense you don't want to spend $200+ on a new cable.

I personally don't believe in replacing cable to benefit sound. It should be the last thing to consider in replacing any part of your rig. Most 'phone will not benefit from just using a 99.9999% conductivity cable over a 99.99% cable.

It does change the sound. The weight of how much it could be changed sort of depends on the whole system. You need to find find a good match for your own or copy someone else setup.
