I had, for a while, the PXC-250, and it can be driven by a small portable.
I wouldn't call it better than the 200; the difference is that the 250 is a noise-cancelling set. It works ..okay for that, but I wouldn't consider it worth the price difference.
To my ears, the PXC-250 is markedly better-sounding than the PX200. The noise-reduction circuitry seems also to do some sort of audio sweetening that agrees with me. I don't think I ever wear my PX200 any more, but if my wife hadn't claimed my PXC-250 for herself, I'd still be using it from time to time.
Switching the noise cancelling circuit on boosts the volume; on the old HD451 the impedance was *much* lower with the noiseguard activated, so it seems possible that the situation is the same with the PX250.
I haven't heard the PX200's but I like my PX250's. I use mine straight out of my I-river IHP140 that has enough output to drive them quite loud. The noise cancelling circuit definitely amplifies the signal. I think they sound much better with the circuit turned on. With the circuit turned off, I don't think my IHP140 can drive them loud enough. But I always turn the noise cancelling on. The bass is quite good but you have to adjust the ear pads to get a good fit and seal (not difficult but you must do this) but you probably already know that if you use the PX200.
