Hello, friends! I might have a chance to buy a used senn 451 noise cancelling phones real cheap. Quick question - are they any good, compared to more recent cans? Sound isolation is as important for me as sound quality. Or should I stop being cheap and go for something better? No canalphones, please.
Thanks.

I like it. I think the sound is a little better than the PXC250. But it is NOT isolating. That's right, it's active noise reduction in an open headphone. And it works: flip the switch and things like airplane cabin noise, air conditioner hum, street sounds, etc. all become noticeably (and usefully) more distant. But it will not block out a coworker on the phone in the next cubicle, a baby crying in the next row of seats, etc.

If isolation is as important to you as sound quality, these aren't your cans. I'm sorry to say that, because I do like them, but I think you'd be better served by something else.
