Semi-Poll: What's your job?

Professional physics student (and do pretty well at it), and professional transporter aka pizza delivery driver. At least until next monday when I head to montana for my summer internship.

Truth be told I'm much better at spending money than making it.

Computer programmer coding air traffic control software for the FAA.

My advice: Take the train.

I delivered pizza part-time for Pizza Hut for like 3 years. It was actually a pretty fun part-time job...getting paid to drive around, listen to tunes, drink free Pepsi's & eat free pizza...and paid pretty damn well to boot. Bringing home cash tips every night was a definite plus!

Peace,

Graz

I'm a student, but soon I will be working for WCTS (Whitman College Technical Services). Basically I sit in a office and do whatever I want: play video games, do homework, zone out, until someone asks me a question, which is not often. For this I get paid minmun wage, and it will be awesome.

True, true. Glamorous it is not, but stimulating it is. Gas is getting crazy though! And people are not tipping any better than before.

In the summer I work at an Electrical Engineering company, and I do the electrical drawings with AutoCAD. Last year I was building/fabricating PLC panels downstairs in the shop.
The rest of the months I'm at University... Electrical Engineering of course.

I am a grad student and researcher at The Salk Institute/UCSD.

I am an aspiring x-ray crystallography who strives to obtain high resolution structures (one to three angstroms) of medically relevant membrane proteins. I am especially interested in elucidating ligand/receptor interactions with g-protein-coupled receptors that might lead to rational drug design. Nearly 50% of drugs on the market target g-protein-coupled receptors, yet we have little structural insight into how they work. The only g-protein-coupled receptors which have been solved are bacteriorhodopsin and Bovine rhodopsin (2000).

My current project entails characterizing MISTIC, a membrane-integrating protein that allows high-level expression of eukaryotic membrane proteins in bacteria. This protein represents a novel and potentially revolutionary discovery in the world of structural biology, finally allowing investigators to pursue structural characterization of human membrane proteins in a high-throughput format with e. coli. You can read our publication in the 2005 Feb issue of Science, if you are interested.

Find what you like and go for it. It's NEVER too late.
