Seeking suggestions. My Etymotic ER-4P's are dying.

Etymotic customer service is great. Send the unit in and see if they can fix or replace the cable. Call or write first for a RMA.

I'd consider getting them remolded into customs.. if it's a wiring issue (likely as my ER4Ps did this), I see no reason why this wouldn't be possible.
 
I'm consdiering doing this myself with my broken ER4Ps, although having just ordered JH13s I really have no need... must. stop. spending.

Based on your preferences, it seems that you might like the following:
Ortofon EQ-7
Any high-end Audio-Technica
RE0
Westone 2
Phonak PFE
 
They all produce rather clean sounds. I cannot vouch for the Klipch Custom 3's recommended by ZARIM because the powerful, punchy low end distracts from the smooth mids.
