That doesn't mean I want to spend all $200, but if it's worth that much, I'll bite. I plan to use them only for movies (Blu-Ray) as I use headphones for gaming :)

So far I have been suggested these on Overclock.net:

My sound card is an Asus Xonar Essence STX, drivers working perfectly on Windows 7 64 bit.

Have you looked at the Audioengines A2s? They're not 2.1, but many consider them the go-to speakers for nice sound on desktops.

I personally like logitech's speakers, too. I own X-540s, which are lower-end but satisfy me. the Z623s have a lot of good reviews.

You can get a reasonable 5.1 system for $200, like the Logitech x540 , blu-rays are encoded with 6 channel sound so having a 2.0 or 2.1 system you are missing out.

Yea the logitechs are no good for music listening, but with movies and games there alright you won't get high-end for $200, in your budget i recommend the Edifier Studio R1900TII or Behringer ms40.

Might I suggest the Swan's D1080MKIIs?
I've had the opportunity to compare them to the MS40s and the m-audio AV40s. Easily manages to best them

I purchased the older set 10 months ago and ran into some issues with them a while back, TAI immediately arranged for an RMA/upgrade to the newer 08 model for me. Hence a +1 on support as well.

hmm, are there any speakers that would allow me to later add more speakers for surround sound if I ever choose to do so? If not I may just get the Swan M50W, even if it's above my budget :L3000:
