Hello guys, kueller351 here.

I am joining you today as I find it very hard to find exactly what I want on the headphone market. I am searching for a few days as I am on holidays and read a hundreds of thread mentioning thousands of brands/models, etc...

I just got lost in the ocean of headphones.. And then, I found this forum which got douzens of post like mine but I didn't find one with exactly what I'm looking for.

I hope you guys will excuse me not to post more before asking for help, I know it can sounds a little bit "leechy" (? sorry for my bad english btw) but I simply don't have the knowledges you guys have to help the others.

Back to the thread!

First of all I decided to change my headphone (Sony MDR XB500 old ones) because the black stuff on the earrings is going away and I always leave it with my face covered in tiny black kind of leather pieces. Not the best you'll agree. I have it for like 10 years and I liked its sound with powerful basses which were matching perfectly my electronic/dubstep/dnb phase. But I grew up since then.

I am still listening several hours of music everyday as I have been grown in a musical environment. Everyone in the family play something but we are not specialists or professionals, we just like music. I am listening a lot of different styles of music from classical to psytrance via reggae, blues and jazz and whatever as long as it is well made. My father has a good music setup but I don't have the chance to have a similar quality of music at home as I am listening mainly from my computer.

Secondly I would like to use my new headphone for pc gaming too. I do need a good spatialization (does that word even exists?) as I want to know if the bullets are coming from my back or my side.

My wife is currently sleeping in the same room where I play so I guessed after reading threads that I would need a closed headphone not to disturb her and not to get disturb when there are noises around?

I'd like to take it around with me as we move a lot and I like to get music near me at all time.

After my first researches I was undecided between the Fidelio X2 and the DT-990 and then I understood that both were compiling my needs but are opened ones...
So I do wonder if such a headphone exists, I know I want everything.. At first I searched sub 100€ but I swifty understood that it would be more. I can't go any further than 250€ anyway...

So long story short if you are lazy to read my life:

• A closed one I guess?
• 250€ maximum
• Music and games mainly
• I have no idea if I do need an amp or not, I mainly use my phone when I'm moving and my computer at home.
• Please be gentle this is my first step in Hifi headphones world!

Again, please excuse my grammatical mistakes and my little vocabulary in English.

Thank you very much for reading,
Kueller351

Hi Kueller651, welcome to Head-Fi.

From what you said, I understand that you'll need something fairly easy to drive since you want to use it with your phone and straight out of your PC. A DAC and an amp will almost always provide an improvement over the sound straight out of your laptop. There are some very good combos for around $100 (Schiit Fulla2, Micca Origen+, among others).

Since you plan on using you headphones for gaming, Stereo imaging is an important factor to consider. Based on all that, I would recommend either the ATH M40x ($100) or the MSR7 ($220). The AKG K553 would also be a good option ($160)

Hello Carcajou,

Thanks a lot for your fast answer and for the welcome! Very appreciated!

You are right I didn't explain it very well but all I have now is my phone and the motherboard included sound card from my pc, which is quite recent but I imagine far away from external sound cards and amps..

Anyway if soon I do want to upgrade to a better sound system from my pc, do those headphones you suggested would be still good enough? I just have maximum 250€ this month to spend but next month is another month!!

I would really like to upgrade to a real sound system from my pc for music listening too.

Yes, they should scale fairly well with a basic DAC/Amp combo.

Thanks a lot! I will wait a little bit to see if anyone else might have another idea that suits my needs and I will follow your advice!
And I will take a look at the amp/dac part of the forum to dig up some good ideas!!
Thanks for helping, see you around!
