Anyone else notice this? The drop down search box is hidden behind that black banner ad when searching from the main page.

Yeah, I've noticed this too, only on certain ads though, not all the time. I don't remember what add, but it's kind of annoying.

Is it browser based? Layer (common not CSS) may play out differently.

It does it on whatever ad is grey. Never fails, regardless if I'm using Opera Firefox or IE...it's annoying, so I just hit refresh and it goes away....

Yup, started noticing it several months ago. However, it doesn't seem to be limited only to "the black banner ad." It's still quite annoying though.

I don't see the problem, you can click on the far right of the Advanced Search 'bar' (even though the words are covered) and it will still bring you to the search screen.

It's a problem because not everyone knows that. Either way, it's a glitch.

I can't actually see the banner as I've got a blocker, but I imagine it will be because the banner is Flash, which messes with div tags.
