Hello,

I've been looking at the Audio Technica ATH-M50s, and I'm prepared to buy them, but before I do, I decided to ask around if there is something better out there for around the same price. Any and all suggestions are welcome! I want to avoid amps for now, so I'm looking for headphones that sound great, without an amp

P.S. I listen to all genres of music besides Jazz and Classical

It kind of depends on what you're looking for.  As you're looking at purchasing reference monitors, I'm going to assume you prefer a more neutral signature (though I've heard the m50s have decent bass for that category).  If you like your headphones a little bright but with excellent bass, then you could check out the Beyerdynamic DT 990 pro. they can be had on Amazon for about $150 right now. Mind you that the 990s will most likely need an amp to be driven properly, but they are a steal.

I edited my first post to say the genres I listen to, and I want to avoid amps for now, havent done enough research to feel comfortable about buying it

Hello!

If you prefer more bass, UE6000 but if you are looking for something more neutral since you listen to all genre, I would suggest you the HD449 or the SRH-840

Hope it helps!
Billson :)

very helpful, i'm reading reviews, and it seems great, but I do worry that there isn't enough bass as all reviews say it has less bass than the m50s, do you know if they have strong bass, just a little less than the m50s?
