I've just ordered a FiiO X1, and need a MicroSD card for it. I would like a 128GB card, but I only have ~$85; 128GB MicroSDs cost about $100. So I searched around and found this SD card and this adapter. I know PNY is a good brand and trust it, but I don't know about the adapter. I would wrap it to the back of my X1, probably taping it there, then putting the case over it. How reliable is this adapter? Would the set up In explained work? How durable would such a system be? Any responses or answers would be very helpful, and the sooner the better, as my X1 comes tomorrow.

I wouldn't use it, personally. If it catches or comes loose, you could lose the data on the card and be out of pocket. I've had CF cards die on me numerous times in my 5D Mk III so I'm wary about connecting and disconnecting properly.

Yeah, I'm wary about the durability. I guess I'll just get the 64GB card, it should hold around 2000 songs in WMA format according to my math. Not as much as I wanted, but it'll have to do.

Or just hold out until you can afford the $15 more for the Micro SD. I would definitely do that!

Unfortunately I'm 15 and don't have a credit card, I'd probably have to wait until next week to go out to Walmart and get an Amazon gift card, etc. 64GB should be enough, there are some albums I can just pull a song or two off of, and it looks like I'll have exactly 60GB of music when I'm done.

Edit: And 3x the price for 2x the storage? Not quite worth it to me.

3X = X+2X, or 300%

PNY SDXC-1 :  $63.37
Sandisk MicroSDXC-1 : $89.90

$89.90 - $63.37 = $26.53
$26.53 $89.90 = 0.41865, or 41.87%

Even if you price the Sandisk microSDXC card at $100.00, that comes out to a 58% increase in price. Still far off 3X, or 300%(X+2X). I didn't even include the adapter in that computation.

Math aside, the $26 or so price difference (or $15) isn't too big considering the hassles of ordering the adapter, which is relatively fragile, and might even be DOA when it arrives, and then you'd have to deal with getting it replaced. Basically, all I'm saying is hold off for a while.

Isn't there any MicroCenter or Fry's in your area? I get miscellaneous electronics items from there when they put them on sale. I've grabbed a 16gb SD Sandisk UHS-1 (for my camera; bought it two years ago) and more recently a 64gb microSD UHS-1 for around $10 and $14 respectively. My brother picked up a 128gb for my Dad's Android for around $56 (since he installs his apps on the microSD). There's a Patriot in there right now with a $10 rebate; if going to either store isn't going to cost you a lot check once in a while - the SD card I got for $10 wasn't even in their ads, I just stumbled into them when I hitched a ride with my brother and he dropped by a Fry's to get something (I think he got a PS3 game or something).

Whoops, sorry, forget to say I got the 64GB MicroSD from PNY, for $30. That's what I meant by the 2x the storage for 3x the price.

The only thing resembling an electronics store near me is the electronics section at Walmart. I bought the PNY, (Sandisk goes on sale the day after of course) and now that I think about it, I'll be fine with the storage. My collection is only about 30GB, my dad has about 80GB but I'll probably be grabbing only 20-30GB of it, maybe even less. That'll leave me with, if I'm lucky, 10-12GB, which is good enough.
