a few back pages on this thread is enough info about opening a GS2/new chassis and switching cards. as I see it, easy to do at home, if not looking easy to do, off to Schiit for the change. That is for the original yggy not the yggy +. They yggy+ should be easier.

As long as the music you listen to through any input is properly level matched, ain't nobody hearing any difference in blind multiple trials. If you can, one of the inputs is faulty.
Suggest you put some qualifications on your blanket statement? As a sensory scientist part of my job is to a)train to standards, b) test vs standards, c) do double blind tests on occasion, d) establish standards of measurements and analysis, e) do statistical analysis and set confidence standards, and finally be ruthless objective and aware of the difficulties involved with the huge variation in people's sensitivity and outside interferences.
Short version of results: many people can't initially, but some could with training. People have HUGE variation in their senses, optical, hearing, taste and feel. Initial results of Mike and (?) for the blind Yggy shootout with OG, MIL and LIM point very clearly that some people can. Paladin in the forums here clearly states that in his blind groups there are people who have uncanny abilities to distinguish certain things.
I read tons of claims like yours online without methodology, data, or links to peer reviewed articles. I get that you don't believe what you can't see/hear. It is good to be skeptical, but how about a discussion with actual data from real research? That would be useful to many here who are interested and would like to see learn more about how they interact with their hobby.

Deleted my long reply. Just not going to get into the discussion and derail the thread any further. Not a kind thing to do.

yeah, Yggy+ doesnt require any instructions , it's just 4 screws. But the guts are the same so that part is still relevant. That is for the original yggy not the yggy +. They yggy+ should be easier.
The Unison USB module has arrived to replace the USB 3 module.
I am rubbish with DIY and I don't even have a screwdriver small enough to open it up however, there is a shop down my street that does computer repairs and other stuff so I will take it in for them to do it this week.

I wonder what the story is with Loge, Siegfried, and Erda. The Unison USB module has arrived to replace the USB 3 module.

Well, my saga with Yggy GS2 repairs has finally come to an end after several months. After a replacement unit, and sending that unit back in for repair, I've had it back for a couple weeks now with no freezups, lockouts or problems with input switching.
They did say they flashed it to the newest firmware, which leaves me confused why the first two units didn't have the latest firmware on them. Maybe whoever assembled my units forgot to add the new chassis firmware to the old A1 card? Who knows that seems like it wouldn't be the case.
However, after receiving it back, input selection on the DAC works fundamentally different now. Now the Yggy automatically mutes the inputs that aren't connected when cycling through them, pressing the mute button will not unmute the input/turn the mute light off unless signal is coming through that input on the back of the Yggy. Is this how everyone else's works? Just wondering if they put some special firmware on mine that locks the other selections out, to prevent the input selection bug I was having.
Just happy it's working all good now. Having some fun comparing the digital inputs. AES and Unison seem about equal to me, and I'll probably stick with Unison for simplicity. This was a surprise to me as I much preferred SPDIF coax inputs over Unison on my previous Bifrost 2 and 2/64s.

Glad to hear. I set the Yggdrasil once and don't have need to press the buttons. If I power off the source, Yggdrasil mutes. If i power on the source, Yggdrasil locks on. My first BF264 was bugged bad. SPDIF coax functioned a greater percentage of time, while Unison USB was a NO-NO!. Second BF264 worked flawlessly and I found I preferred the UnisonUSB over the SPDIF coax. With Yggdrasil I have a UnisonUSB CD transport, and a AES/EBU CD transport. I don't prefer one over the other, differences, but both enjoyable.Well, my saga with Yggy GS2 repairs has finally come to an end after several months. Awesome! Thanks for the reply. In that case, looks like my first two units were more bugged than I thought. The inputs were never actively muted (mute light on) even when nothing was plugged in or the sources were off.Glad to hear. I set the Yggdrasil once and don't have need to press the buttons. I posted in the Schiit thread a few notes on my diy experience with the GS2+ MIB card install. There’s no soldering. If you’re ever taken a card of card out of a computer (pci, etc) it’s essentially the same. All you need is a screwdriver… but I had some difficult getting the case to slide back by hand. A few light taps with a rubber mallet helped immensely. IMO it’s a super easy install and would be pretty hard to mess anything up.I’ve really been digging the A1 card in my GS2 but the MIB seems like it’s right up my alley. I was wondering if anyone has experience swapping cards in the Yggy+ chassis since I’d prefer not to ship out my DAC.
I figure the board screws in and has some sort of connector? Does anything need to be soldered in? If the installation is anything other than straightforward, I’ll bite the bullet and send it to Schiit.
Looking to find some A2 boards for my GS2. Does anyone know if the boards from an older chassis yggy will drop into the new chassis and work fine? And vice versa?
Thinking of maybe picking up a cheap A2 in the old chassis and swapping the boards, but if it won't work, I won't bother.

Schiit also offers a Yggy+ chassis upgrade that migrates the old guts to the newer chassis and updates the firmware to enable remote control and NOS mode options.
To my knowledge the firmware update is front panel / Yggy logic only and doesn't apply to the DAC boards themselves, but it never hurts to email Schiit directly for confirmation.
Thanks for confirmation, think I just read about someone trying to put the MIB boards into an old chassis Yggy and it wasn’t making sound or something like that. The boards are the same.

I know Schiit added the “choose your yggy version” option recently when buying a new board, so was wondering if they weren’t compatible.

yeah they need the updated microcode chip but u already have one. Should work fine throwing the A2 into your GS2.Thanks for confirmation, think I just read about someone trying to put the MIB boards into an old chassis Yggy and it wasn’t making sound or something like that.
