Currently own a Schiit Modi Multibit and wonder what dac I should upgrade to? I want a fpga or R2R ladder dac, not delta sigma chip dac. No need for headphone out or a pre-function. Price under 2000, to buy used is also an option.

Thanks

Well if you are pleased with the Schiit R2R sound signature you could always go for a Yggdrasil. There are plenty second hand or b-stock that will be in your price range.

Otherwise if you want to save money and get a FPGA based dac the Chord Qutest is wonderful. I prefer the Qutest to the Yggy, but of course the only real way to know the difference is if you listen yourself. The down side to the Qutest is that it's rather limited by the outputs, (just RCA) on the back.

Hopefully others can chime in as well with suggestions, the Qutest and Yggdrasil are just the two dacs that immediately pop into my mind.
