I have been researching headphones and DACs/AMPS for around a week now, and I keep finding myself coming back to this forum for help with a tight decision. Soon I will be purchasing the HD650s and HE-400Is (I currently own the X2's), and I wanted a solid DAC and AMP to go alongside it. As far as AMPs are going, I am for the most part sold on buying a Vali 2. However, I am trying to make the decision if I should buy a Modi 2, Modi 2 Uber, or Modi Multibit. From what I hear, the Modi Multibit has a 'fuller' sound, and the Modi 2 Uber has more power and more ports than the Modi 2. I was wondering if the $150 premium is worth it? I am not an audiophile and honestly use Soundcloud to listen to the majority of my music. Would the difference be worthwhile? I would also have to order off of Schiits website if I wanted the MMB, which would be a slight pain, opposed to Amazon.

In addition, from what I've heard, the Vali 2 is more solid state sounding opposed to tube sounding, and you have to start tube rolling to get a better idea of the tube sound? Any recommendations on tubes?

The Modi Multibit is considerably better than the Modi 2. The Modi 2's sound quality is on the same level as my laptop's onboard DAC, whereas the Modi Multibit can outperform many DACs in higher price ranges. I think you're likely to hear an improvement, but nothing is guaranteed. The disadvantage of Schiit's multibit DACs is that they have to be left on to reach thermal equilibrium.

I myself would go multibit I just think it brings a bit more naturalness to the sound is it worth $150 more that is up to you to decide. To be honest I'm not one who likes the term diminishing returns as your are saying to other sounds better but I don't want to pay that much. That's fine but I would be wondering every time I heard the other what am I missing. That is just me so YMMV. There is a Vali 2 tube rolling thread that would probably be best to find the right tube for you. That will have to be a compromise one as they are very different in sound signature.

Well, I have been convinced (again). I will go with the Modi Multibit and Vali2. My only question is how to connect them? From what I understand you only need to purchase the PYST Cables (6" RCA), while the USB and power cables are included?

Well, the Mojo supports up to 24/192 via TOSLINK (and up to 32/768 via USB or coaxial), but I'm using a Behringer UCA202 audio interface (which is great value since it's just $30) to output TOSLINK, and it can't do anything past 24/48. Not a major issue, since most of my music is 16/44. I believe all the cables themselves can do 24/192.

I have a tosslink that cant, so I am needing to buy a new one lol. The last one I had before I moved to Nc was able to, but the x did not ship the cable with the pc and the new cable I got does not supprt 24/192 , just 24/96. I will probably buy the better monoprice.
