The old utopia works very well with m3.
Thanks for the feedback, I ended up purchasing the Utopia. I've listened to it for just a few hours, and my initial impression is extremely positive as it should be!

My Fiio K9 delivers 2.2w into 300Ohm :thinking:. It's also a 5v DAC;
I might not need anything else. I wonder what effective wattage I'd get sending the Fiio K9 as a pre-amp to a Mjolnir3 . Or, as a DAC w/ 5v to Mjolnir.

I wish I understood all that better.
If the Fiio K9 is truly delivering 2.2w into 300Ohm then you don't need to worry about powering tungsten or any other headphone for that matter, you're set, it's all going to come down to sound presentation and quality at this point and what are your preferences.

Also, I'm positive I read Jason saying that MJ3 puts out more power at weird impedances, and puts out 4-5 watts at 60ohm which is another reason it drives Susvara so well. Good luck finding it in the thread tho. Schiit happened is a monster thread.
At this point, content wise that thread is significantly larger than the vatican secret archive.

Oh, damn, he has the STACK? Siiick. Ive always kind of wanted a pair of dual-mono blocks running balanced. Never had a need , of course, but now with Tungsten... I bet dual-block would have them thangs slamming.
the dual-mono version of the mentor it's outputing like 6w into 300ohm, so it probably is doing something like 10w into 150ohm, you will easily drive the tungsten into distortion levels and maybe even to the point of assploding your headphones.

>Tfw when you put your headphones on your dual mono mentor stack and forgot that the volume knob was turned all the way up

Example of Assplosion

My MJ3 made a stranges sound today when I switched inputs. It never did that before...

Why do manufacturers design amps with volume pots so low to the shelf so you can't get your fingers to turn the knob without hitting the shelf?
Huge pet peeve of mine.

If you look at the design of their equipment in general, there does seem to be some anti-fat finger ideology going on here.

Plus the patented devilboy "rubber band on the volume pot" tweek.
It takes less effort to turn.
(Points to head) This ain't just a fancy hat rack.
