The Mimir is Schiit's newest evolution of their affordable delta-sigma DACs. While it still uses the same ESS ES9028 DAC chip as the outgoing Modius E, the Mimir now uses Schiit's own proprietary "MegaComboBurrito" digital filter (but a less complex version of it) instead of using one of the standard digital filters that are included with the ES9028. Plus, with the addition of a $50 plug-n-play Forkbeard module, it can also do quite a few extra things (like digital volume control, 3-band PEQ, true NOS filter mode, etc).

For $300 bucks, this little DAC is an amazing value!!

I wonder how well this would pair with my Schiit Midgard.

This is looking promising. Curious about the eventual Bifrost upgrade…

Wish they tested vs mmb2

I wonder if this would be an upgrade to my old OG Bifrost Multibit...

It works just fine with mine. No adjustments needed other than making room for the larger wall wart.
I haven't tried all my headphones yet. I have been getting used to my CFA Alien Brain.
Forkbeard will have to wait for an Andriod app 🫤

Definitely. I think the OG Bifrost Multibit has fallen behind the resolution and bass department. However, musicality and engagement factor wise, I think the OG Bifrost Multibit can definitely hang in there since it's got the "classic R2R sound".

Will you be doing a comparison between ssrc and sox upsampling? I use sox by default since it was added to Foobar2000. I wonder if it matters.
I've heard of sox, but dont know anything about it. Musicbee upsamples too, but only to 192k

Roon can also oversample to 384 KHz IIRC, but if you guys really want quality filters, HQPlayer or PGGB is the way

I am curious about how Roon will do the DSD to PCM conversion when connected to the Mimir. With my BF 2/64 and Yggdrasil, the conversion is DSD64 to PCM 352.8 kHz then sample rate conversion halved to 176.4 kHz. With the Mimir (and future Byggy), does Roon just convert DSD64 to 352.8 kHz and be done with it? Has anyone tried it yet?
