Schiit Magni 2 / Modi 2 Uber Stack Help Please!!!

Well, HD600's takes more power to get to the same volumes as the other cans. Does the amp get them loud enough to listen to? With good quality?

Magni 2 Uber + Modi 2 Uber -> HD600? No, that should get plenty loud. I typically have mine set around 9 o' clock.

I have to turn the amp to max to get them as loud as i want them with good quality. Which I shouldn't need to do that. I was reading a post where some guy had hd650's and a schiit magni 2 uber / modi 2 uber stack... and all he would need to do is increase volume just past the 9 o'clock mark on the knob... and it would sound great and loud.

I just took the amp to the recording studio next door from me... And we tested vmoda and Beats By Dre headphones... The vmoda headphones were louder... And the beats by dre headphones are also a lot louder than the hd600s connected to the amp ...
I would expect the Beats and Vmoda models to be louder. They have lower impedance (and probably equal or lower efficiency). The real question is whether or not you're getting a full range on the volume (including good-medium, good-loud, and potentially deafening). What you want to confirm is that the Magni is putting out power, and if so, we may have narrowed things down to your headphones (unfortunately). Although you said they were still getting loud on your PC-out, correct?

Well.... When I connected my headphones to the line out on my sound blaster Z... with my volume mixer set to max.... It's good-medium. To achieve good-medium with the amp... I'd have to turn it to near the 6 o'clock position and maybe past that to achieve the same.

Now you have HD650's with the same setup? If so... you say at the 9 o'clock position its loud and good to your liking right? Shouldn't mine be the same?

They're hard to drive. It should be the same with the same cans. I'm confused.

I'm confused as well... I'd expect the schiit stack to drive these cans much better than my Sound Blaster Z. When people tell me I shouldn't be exceeding 10-12 o' clock position on the knob of my magni 2 uber, I would assume that means SUPER loud. Yet I'm here listening to stuff at the 4-5 o'clock position.

Is full volume on the Schiit stack louder than the max output of the Z?

I'll go back to my original statement. You need to get a CD player and plug the left and right outputs of the CD player directly into the left and right inputs of the Magni 2. In this way you have a known standard output (  CD player outputs are 2 volts ) feeding your Magni 2.

All that you have done, and tried so far only indicates to me that there was nothing wrong with your original Magni, and there is nothing wrong with your new Magni.

If you plug a CD player into your Magni and then plug in your headphones, you should have enough volume to make your ears bleed. If not, you have something wrong............with your ears!!

If you can do this, than we can determine that the amp is not defective, and can then go about determining what is the real problem.  Despite what you might be thinking at this point, this is not an unsolvable problem.

Hmm... I'll ask my friends if they have one I can use to test this. Maybe the recording studio next door has one.
