I have a good friend who is an audiophile snob and dealer in high-end equipment like Genesis, German Physiks, Merrill, Electrocompaniet, EMM Labs, Horning, etc... anyway I was talking to him about DACs and he made a distinctly disgusted noise at the mention of Schiit Audio. "You own that? Isn't it cheaply made?" he asked. No, I repleid, and also it sounds superb, better than my Wavelength or Aurender did. "No way," he insisted. I made him a wager - if he did not think the Yggdrasil was a great sounding DAC that competed with units costing 10X the price, I'd buy him a bottle of his favorite Don Julio 1942. If he would listen and admit it was a great piece of kit, he had to buy me a bottle of Bruichladdich Black Art. "You're on" he said. I set some ground rules about the listening test and told him I did not expect him to be honest about his results, but it was worth the cost of some 1942 just to know he had given the Yggdrasil a try. My Yggdrasil is going into its box and shipping to New Jersey tomorrow.
