Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

RIP @RCBinTN. We traded several PMs over the last few years and he was always very kind and willing to share his thoughts and knowledge. It was mentioned that losing someone one this forum is like losing a family member and I quite agree with that sentiment.

@Les Strat I also have made friends on this forum that I wouldn’t have made otherwise and I’m better for it.

Hi -

I have been ill for a while now and in and out of hospitals but working toward getting better, thank you! Getting older(er) is never easy, LOL! I actually just bought myself a Marantz CD60 in silver/gold which arrived the end of last week and have begun listening to CDs on it along with my HEOS headphone setup.

I did attend the Southern California CanJam but it is difficult for me to get around now. All the same I had great fun! Please do not misunderstand me, I am far better off than so many people in this world and as my mom used to say, "You have no reason to complain, so just bitch about it and get on with life!".

I spoke with a young woman at the Qbouz (?) stand and if that service ever becomes HEOS compabitlbe I may try it. I saw and spoke with Jude at the show and he got me a two day pass but I was physically unable to return the next day due to my being a total ***** of a toad, LOL! As is the case with any and all associated with this hobby of ours, he is a wonderful person.

Enough ramblin'! I shall attempt to "catch up" but I know that I easily tire and will likely doze off a lot now! It is good to read you all again and to be read and "seen"! :beerchug:

Ok a serious question, I may make a flight board that includes a set of four glasses that are quite pretty but not your normal flight glasses. Maybe aperitif, sherry, or port because of their size?
Flight board is not correct, maybe a stand for the glasses and a bottle.
Looks like a cordial or aperitif friendly glass that deserves an ornate bottle and stand.

2 - 3 times per day? Those are two very lucky cats! The litter box sanitation in my house resembles more of a bus station restroom in comparison. 🤣
Does it have this little sign?:

We aim to please so please take aim!

Also, one thing you'll have to read, is Jason's Chapter on Forkbeard. Very interesting and fun, with features just for you...! 😁

Again, get well my Forum Friend...! 👍🤓

Because, while I was doing the wireframes, I quickly realized we could use the current sensor in the amps as a instant power output meter—kinda like a VU meter.
Aside: ORT, here you go. Finally. Because they are useful to know you’re your amp is clipping. Unfortunately it’s on your phone. Stick the phone to the amp. Done.
Welcome back ORT. Just in case you missed it, you got the ultimate call out from Jason in his post "Get Forked"

Quads ESL 57's don't really have much going on over 15k. 63's similar, the later 989 etc. more.
For 57 correct, although we can have them do much better than that, for 63 you couldn't be more wrong.
So much hearsay talk on these speakers and so much totally wrong info and claims.

The 989 and all later 6-panel Quad ESL's are just a marketing thing, demand for bigger (more impressive) and more bass.
Slam in two extra panels and change nothing is not a good thing. Peter Walker would have never allowed these 6 panel models on the market like this.
Adding an extra 320 pF load to the step-up transformers without any any changes in design is a big nono for me. Just for an extra 5 Hz on the low end.
The 6 panel reviews are all two letters, starts with a B and ends with an S. Commercial blahblah, nothing more, nothing less.

The 4 panel models are what the speaker's electronics and transformers are designed for, starting with the 63. The later models have a much worse metal grill than the original 63 model. Yes the newer models after the 988/989 are a bit more sturdy.
So the 63 model is the only right way to go. How I know? I rebuild these speakers (all models) on a very regular basis with my brother who started a business for it.
Just look at the Quad ESL-63 measurements versus the Maggie (taken from Stereophile review) below.
Tried to get the same dimensions to give a good compare, but can't see what the high limit on the right hand side of the LRS graph is.
If rebuild correct the 63 model can do up to 22 kHz without any problem. I measure them after rebuild about every week.
They have the lowest distortion possible, also plain room measured, of below 0,1% (THD 2-9 that is) above 100 Hz and not rising above 1% in the low, down to 30 Hz
Frequency response, again measured in plain room conditions, plus and minus 6 dB between 30 Hz and 22 kHz with 1/6 octave smoothing.
Evenness L-R within 1 dB over the whole frequency range

I would love to send a set of Quad ESL Plus 63 rebuild by us over to the Schiitr to give people the opportunity to listen to how they can perform with Yggy, Kara and Tyr.
That is the gear I measure them on after every rebuild set that is delivered with a full individual measurement report.
If someone will pay for the transport (NL - USA) I will gladly donate a set.
