Ahh… I get it.. now I’m older I increasingly hate air travel (yeah, irony, my son is a pilot at Southwest, and I get free/massive discounts (God has a sense of irony)…

But, yeah, Austin in December - for anyone from a more “normal” clime… is exceptional… likely mid 70’s days, sunny, 50’s at night… and, lots of great food and live music… awesome to visit, frankly.

I don't mind the travel part of air travel - its all the hoo ha before and afterwards that really gets the red mist rising

The gigastack looks absolutely amazing! I can’t think of anything that compares. Question on the design of Wotan and Tyr; curious on the need for T perforated plate cover over the board but under the top cover. Is it more for added rigidity due to weight?

Retired at 42 did a ton of travel till Covid, nice run. There’s always exceptions but travel is a genuine hassle and frequency declines a lot plus 65.

Just checking in with a little follow-up regarding my Yggy+ GS2 vs Gungnir 2 questions I asked a while back. Really appreciate all the answers last time.

The consensus was Yggy+ GS2 or bust and I've started to understand why but still have some good old questions if I may.

- Is Yggy+ the same, but different cards only? (GS2/LIM/MIB)
- Is it possible to upgrade for the new Multiform from GS2 in the future?
- Reading some impressions about a greyish background on the A1/A2 cards, any real concern?
- Also watched a review (think his name is Marv) where they said the Gungnir 2 was somewhere in the middle of the Yggy+ LIM and MIB. Any inputs on this?

Still leaning Yggy+ GS2 and think it's a nice way into the Yggdrasil world. That way I can upgrade when/if a new card like Multiform gets released. At the same time a LIM or MIB would maybe set and forget?

aegir OG has ~1.2V input sensitivity/ a bit higher gain than I expected, so Aegir OG / Tyr mismatch will actually be less than original guesstimate.

From Tyr spec page Gain: 22 (28dB)

dB gains can simply be subtracted to determine difference; for unit-less gain values, take ratio of numbers, then log 10, then multiply by 20 to get dB —> 20 * log 10 (22/12) = 5.26dB pair of Tyrs vs single aegir OG in stereo mode. using dB values given 28dB-22dB = 6dB difference, assuming both amps using SE RCA input (2Vrms nominal).

For dual Aegir in monoblock mode with XLR bal source gain (xlr to phase splitting dual rca cable) vs Tyr with XLR input, gain difference will still be 5.26 dB.

To convert voltage gain a unitless number N (Av in engineerese) to dB, 20* log10 (N) = dB.

aside: Tyr gain spec calc has an error as 22 is 26.8dB, not 28dB

Aegir 2 F's gain in mono block configuration is 2x that of it in stereo.
Nearly 2x the headroom, too, so that you can actually make use of that extra gain.

And to you, I head out later to my daughter’s place where they do most of the cooking. This year I get to teach a teenager how to carve a turkey. I take along a couple knives I made with high carbon Japanese steel.

Jason got me thinking about power amps that would drive the Infinity Kappa 9’s and I own one such amp. About 1989 a local lady walked into an audio store in Indy and plunked down $10,000 and asked for their best system in that price range. She ended up with Kappa 9’e and a Carver TFM-45 amp and associated preamp and a transport. The amp is rated at 375 watts per channel into 8 ohms and uses Carver’s magnetic field transformer. It has the warmth of a tube amp and the specs are supposed to be the same as the Silver Sevens. Not a bad little amp to have around since I have been known to work with many different speakers.
Now I have read reports of this amp being made in China but mine has Made in the USA in Lynnwood Washington. They do not have a big power transformer so some say the power output was a gimmick.
I bought all of her Carver gear and have a standing offer if I ever want the Kappa 9’s. Sam has a pair and at 104 lbs each they are not much fun to move around.

The shop I managed back in '89 thru '04 was an Infinity and Adcom dealer.
We sold Kappa 9's and 8's with a pair of GFA-565 monoblocs for those folks who couldn't quite pony up for a Krell KSA-250.
Worked out well, if you liked the Adcom Glare.

They also need a large listening space, as they want to be away from the walls. This, unfortunately, makes the WAF a problem.
