ROTFLMAO, again... he got you good, dude.
ROTFLMAO, again... he got you good, dude.
I have a pair of '57 Footscray CV4033's for backups that should be very similar sounding to the CV455's. Once the adapter you made me buy arrives I can A/B them in Vali 3.Now I had to order another pair to get ahead of the massive influx of orders.
I bet you paid a tad bit more for that CV4033 than the CV455.I have a pair of '57 Footscray CV4033's for backups that should be very similar sounding to the CV455's. Once the adapter you made me buy arrives I can A/B them in Vali 3.
Sweet! The CV455 works fine (and sounds great) in Vali 2 OG and I was hoping it would work well in Vali 3 too.I have now - for a few hours. [I 'borrowed' one from Woo WA3 so that another break in period could be bypassed.] Vali 3 sound is fabulous with 'Footscray'.
• [For those puzzled, this tube is the Brimar CV455 with KB/FB markings: made at the erstwhile STC Foots Cray plant in 1956. It is a 12AT7 tube.]
• Despite the 60x gain versus the 35x gain of a 5670 tube, in Vali 3 there is no signal overload, no dynamic compression, no loss of headroom. In fact, Footscray's many sonic virtues come through "loud 'n clear" without restraint.
• What are those?: extended frequency range, deeeep bass, sculpted midrange, ethereal treble .... and tremendous layering & placement of instruments / voices.
• That Vali 3 can pass through and capitalise on all this is stupefying (to me, anyway) at its price !!
• Fellow HFers, stop reading & get listening !!
Yup. The labor to mount the bases is not inconsequential which is reflected in the price. But Pulse does a beautiful job with it.I bet you paid a bit more for that CV4033 than the CV455.

Can't resist saying that I'm doing both. Reading this and listening to the Vali 3 with a WE396 in it. Yesterday's (?) recco - Ghost-Note Mustard n' Onions Joy.I have now - for a few hours. Excellent! Here we go, again. Keep 'em coming, mate ... I appreciate the new music ideas.Thank you, more recently (re)issued piano jazz that I was enjoying yesterday:
Copper compression socks. Let's keep it between us. I'm trying to keep it on the down-low so as not to create a run on them.Socks?
Sweet!! Yes sir into a Vali 3 for evaluation!
I finally got around to cleaning and testing ten different 12AU7/ECC82 tubes for @adydula. Among them are a 1952 Lansdale, a French CIFTE (Mazda), a Brimar, an Amperex, a La Radiotechnique, et alia. I believe these are going into a Vali 3 with suitable adapter.
I will ship in the next day or two. I tiled three of our bathrooms so I know the feeling. Oddly enough I bought two PSVanes before I realized those are what PrimaLuna uses, one really measured low on one side so I sent you the good one.Sweet!! Yes sir into a Vali 3 for evaluation!
Adapter has been procured and tested.
Looking forward to this listening experience!
I will take good care of these "gems" and hope to pick a few winners!!
Alex
Bathroom tiling is getting close to being done, my knees are killing me!! Ha!!
.... Pfft! .... finding is one thing; keeping / hoarding is another .... ask N ....
