I found nine brands I can lend you, I want to clean them and run them all through my tester. I believe they range in price from $20-$200 each or so. No GE’s 🤪

This morning our wonderful French door Samsung refrigerator decided to develop an internal leak so I need to shop tomorrow for a different brand.
Samsung refrigerator? Too complex for their own good.

We have had issues for a few years and had service techs in and out trying to fix it. A buddy has done that kind of repair for years but he will not go near Samsung or LG. I am following his advice as well as my own history.🤪

PCM63 R2R Adcom GDA-600 24/96 Side Quest #1

Master Clock

New fast 74xx logic chips installed:

Result: producing a signal now, instead of flat-line... janky.

Poked around with a second 220pf capacitor, adding in parallel (double 440pf) to try for an effect on the signal...

...this forced it to be clean, but always 11/12 MHz (never 22/24)

Bingo: adding in series (halved 110pf) produced a perfect (22/24MHz) just like an XO crystal =>

Janky / Perfect. Edit: freq. wise (well, pretty good haha) overshoot on the test point, at filter pin it’s better.

Think it has a running shot to work, don't even have the DF1704 filter chip yet!

Still works perfectly as stock with these new parts and changed capacitor value.

Thanks! appreciate thoughts, critiques and anything that could help this work.

Electronics 101 is fun :slight_smile::slight_smile:

Can you believe It works?! Video or it didn't happen lol: Refinishing the room, so a bit temporary, untreated. Fantastic on Lyr+/HD650's

Turns out that 220pf => 110pf capacitor change was required for the logic flip-flops, tried it back stock and static at 88.2Khz+

To whomever posted recommendations for this music - thank you very much.
I'm getting as many good music recos here as from the Listening thread these days. Keep 'em coming! :)

I like that idea a lot.

It keeps me honest.

Looking forward to this!!

I checked a few sources and the "good stuff" like most NOS is really up there in price.

Many thanks for the audition!!

Will be interesting to see how I hear and share with you and see how your choices compare.

Alex

FYI: the only thing I have tested is the stock 6N3P and the JJ ECC 82 via the adapter.
IMO the JJ ECC82 wins, hands down. Clear, crisp, articulate etc...Quite a difference here..

JJ's are great sounding bottles.
I run 6 of them in my pre-preamp.
But of course, YMMV

Another hobby of mine is re-furbing the old Dual 1219 and 1229 idler drive automatic turntables...providing the Dearing Rings aren't broken.

I have this dusty old thing sitting in a cabinet in my living room. What are the Dearing Rings and how would I find out if they’re broken?

I had a Samsung dishwasher and refrigerator and both died and have been replaced. The dishwasher and refrigerators both broke around the two year mark. My Samsung induction cook top now has the largest burner not working. I hate Samsung.

The dearing ring is used only on the 1219, 1229 and 1249.
It allows one to set the vta for single play or for correct vta for the 3rd record when a stack of 6 are loaded on the multi-play spindle.
What happens is these tables used a paraffin based grease that turns to glue after x amount of years.
At the base of the tonearm is a lever that moves the arm up or down to adjust the vta. When that lever is forced due to hardened grease, it breaks the two little ears and you can no longer adjust the up or down setting of the arm.
That part is un-obtainable and the only way to procure one is from a donor table. Most of those also have broken rings...sigh.
The 1019's and 1009's don't use that part.
Sorry for the long rant.
