Fedex lied, Vali 3 did not arrive. hopefully today!! yeah!

In the meantime, I got a vali2 + adapter for 12AU7's.

Dont have any exotic 12Au7s...this is a JJ ECC 82.
Amazingly nice...

Thanks for the idea ... queued up for this afternoon. This trio was genius level. Scott LaFaro / Paul Motian.

The overnight posts here are like late night AM radio found in the deepest pockets of flyover country. I read my last post at 10:30 PM EDT, and I woke up to ~40 posts all concerning chilli with a small diversion into belt buckles.

You folks are the schiit! (and depending the provenance of the chilli, e.g. gas stations...nevermind). :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Yup - just about keeps me sane !!!

I really like JJ tubes. I've been using them in my Dyna PAS-4 for a few years now with excellent results.

Chili con carne with beans. What I had not seen till I hit Indiana was adding spaghetti. Or freaking chili over spaghetti lol.
I grew up in Indiana, and never saw chili with spaghetti until I moved to Cincinnati. Over there, they put chocolate in the chili, too, and have "fast food" chains devoted to the dish. Don't miss it, at all. :)

Born and raised in the PNW - Nalley's Chili, originally made in Tacoma, Rainier Beer (locally referred to as "Vitamin R") adjacent to Boeing Field, Seattle

Growing up in Tacoma, we suffered the aroma of a Copper smelter, Chili, Pickles and Paper Pulp.....
Probably the reason I'm not very picky on food (other than spam).

Brought back memories of Rainier Ale, affectionately known as The Green Death.

And here's your soundtrack while you're catching up. Put it on repeat if you're a slow reader.

Ok you tube "experts"..

Getting ready to review the Vali 3.

I ran across some info on the "ECC42" tube family...

Like there is none???

From a diy site:
The Russian 6N3P dual triode is often listed as ECC42 equivalent. I searched everywhere for ECC42 datasheets. Could not find any. Did that tube really exist at some time?

Reply:
Not ECC42 but 6CC42 or 2C51 equivalent.
gm = 5.5 mA/V and mu = 35
Cheers,
Reply 2:
Those listed as equivalents appear to be noval B9A based (9 pins), but an ECC42 would have been Rimlock (8 pins). I conclude that the ECC42 never existed. Possibly someone somewhere thought that the 6CC42 in the East implied the existence of an ECC42 in the West?

So was there or is there a ECC42 family or is it 6CC42 ?

Alex

Pix: Notice the 6N3p's are referenced with the 6CC42 vs ECC42.

I suspect it is more of a Southern Indiana thing. My employees used to serve it with spaghetti and looked at me with confusion when I asked why they were doing that.🤪 My wife is from Louisville so she grew up with it. It took several years to re-program her.😉 My first experience with the Cincinnati version came from two young women from that area who attended a party I was hosting, I tried it out of politeness and went back to the real thing. Lots of cheese and spaghetti lol, very little heat.

It's Cincinnati based for sure. And it isn't bad as long as you treat it as fast/comfort food. But, coming from NE OH I consider all of that area to be Kentucky anyways. Next week I make an Ohio run for work and will definitely get some Skyline.

Heading to Seattle today if anyone has any recs...

Agree. I grew up in Valparaiso ... it's a suburb of Chicago.

Beans or no beans, fine by me. The chili on spaghetti is just strange, don't think I can dig it.

Big fan of venison chili, that may just be the central Michigan in me talking though.
