What is your opinion of the layered birch? I think that's right?
I know your a solid wood person, just that the edge on those layered birch pieces can be quite beautiful.
I own some but I have not used it yet. I will try it out sometime. I just worked with some lignum vitae and that was crazy. A super dense hardwood that is self oiling, does not float, or burn very well. I glued some to other wood and it barely accepts glue lol. About the 4th hardest wood known to man so sanding is a nightmare. I will know better next time. It is also the second most expensive wood you can buy, the tree of life.
So I should just reward everyone else and charge @bcowen regular price? The trouble is neither one of us uses the fiat system or any monetary system for that matter. He might send me glass containing a vacuum and I send him tree parts. We have sent each other liquids that are fermented or distilled and I won a porterhouse cow part once. Money’s just something you throw off the back of a train. (Tom Waits)
I agree on principle. But the reality is similar to me walking up to random strangers and pouring my beer down their throat. I hate pot smoke in public.
'Sixer', this is an album that - if you've perchance not heard - is great required listening!!
[Verve: recorded Village Vanguard; August, 1967.] All three are in better than fine form. Philly Jo Jones gets Bill Evans really swinging - at which he is the understated master! Eddie Gomez is right there, too!
I just removed the CD player and decided to leave the XDA-2 on and not use its headphone out jack. I hate that thing anyway as it's one of those mini-jacks and seems flimsy. The 'table is on top and beneath it on the lower shelf is the XDA-2 atop the Andover Audio setup. Sub is to the left of that. On top of the XDA-2 is my SMSL THX-What headphone amp. Balanced and unbalanced. I like the looks of balanced cables otherwise I don't care. My digital source is a Denon HEOS Link. It is excellent.
I rebooted everything and it's working. For now. I hate leaving stuff powered up. Oh well, it'll make for a nice blue nightlight. The gnu XDA-3 looks okay but mine has kinda sorta upset me for years now which is why it sat unused for a looooong time. Ooooo...Joni Mitchell is on!

Telarc LP's were all the rage back in the late '70's. The 1812 Overture was recorded with real cannons, and you had 'arrived' if your turntable could actually track those grooves (with lesser 'tables the stylus would jump out of the groove and skip). Still have mine somewhere, although the cannon shot grooves are probably worn smooth (now that I finally have a turntable that could track them).
