Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Its so funny every time these articles talk about DSD, because as far as I can tell DSD has basically gone no place in a hurry over the years. I once sunk my dollars into a DSD compatible device LHLabs Geek Pulse...and did I get taken for a ride on that one. Now it and several other LHLabs devices just on a shelf, and they went under taking a huge IndeGoGo investment with them.
Yeah Jason read that one right.

Reading the book 10 years later (most of the way so far) is a real treat bc you get to see his many predictions, having another decade of trends and all that. Seeing all of the products he was alluding to that had everyone so curious. Great read. The man has increased my vocabulary a little too lol. -although i do use dsd64 / 1-bit some. That sweet 2.8Mhz.

IMO worth it if using a noisy (gaming) PC as the source AND the BF1 is multibit with gen 5 or Unison USB (electromagnetic isolated USB interface). stickers should be present on rear or bottom of the unit for these upgrades. Otherwise MMB2 is the best option unless you are considering Bifrost2 /64 for a multibit DAC
Based on purchase date and pictures, and the announcement date of Gen 5, this unit is the OG USB implementation, with multibit so I’d probably want to add the Unison card…

Now to decide if that’s an upgrade from MMB2 or not….and worth the total cost…

Decisions, decisions.

Think I’ll listen to the RSD reissue of Willie’s Shotgun Willie on vinyl while I ponder (and, fingers crossed, I seem to have knocked down my ground loop problem with my vinyl playback with some amazing customer service from Orbit. They, like Schiit, seem to be a brand that wants to go the extra mile for their customers…)

Oklahoma at least had a decent movie named for it. All Texas has is something focused on a little whorehouse. 🤣

Unless you consider something like this:

Already broken-in? That's extremely nice of you. Above and beyond even!

Now back to breaking-in these Fotons. Almost at 100 hours, finally. 🤣
Do you have a spreadsheet for each tube, tracking usage minute-by-minute? I’m only partially joking…

What's wrong with Lone Star beer? Oh wait...it's from Texas. Nevermind. 🤣
Itks also, well, Lone Star. I think it’s trying to Compete with Iron City and some others (Billy and Brew 102 (anyone remember that?) come to mind.

Would love to see such a writeup, if you do it. I had the Uber/Gen2 for a while and really liked the sound of it. In fact, that's what made me go for the Gungnir MB.

I'm hoping you'll say that the MMB2 is a mini-Gumby :), unbalanced (not to imply unhinged :) )

Well, yeah. You mean you don't? Oh man. Looks like my work here is not done.

Thus the nervousa…

I dig, a lot, the MMB2. After I switched over to digital last night I listened to Sean Mason’s remarkable new Southern Suite contemporary jazz release while reading, and ultimately put the book down and just listened.

If I pay the asking price for the Bitfrost, plus upgraded card (installed by Schiit), I’m on the hook for $450 plus shipping costs. I can bring in a current Bitfrost plus shipping for $829 (I like silver), so the money equation is good, but is an OG Bitfrost MB, with unison, better than MMB2…(balanced is not currently an option/issue for me)….

What I do know for sure? Very into Sean Mason’s work. That record is real good.

Saw this turntable on Episode 3 of the The Continental on Peacock. I doubt it's "real", but what do I know!

Vertical playback is particular on select WᴜʀʟɪTᴢᴇʀ® and 𝓡𝓸𝓬𝓴-𝓞𝓵𝓪® record machines. At the Byron (CA, USA) Shops I've a 45 RPM 7" machine that requires repairs to the mechanism as well as replacement tubes, witness a previous Thread.

I'm indifferent to sports. If the Chiefs win, that's great. If not, it's no big deal. I've asked Alexa twice about the score.

I'll be glad when things get back to normal. Lately local news has been:
Chiefs
Chiefs
Travis and Taylor
Chiefs
Shooting
Chiefs
Chiefs
Chiefs
Tragic car wreck
Chiefs
Weather in Las Vegas
Chiefs
Why are yous guys still talking about the soup-n-bowl. That was five days ago.

A variation on the Cowen flight board since I never build the same thing twice. I am deciding on glass sizes so no holes cut.
.... a 'dry January' board .... 😮
